Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC)

The CRDC (Civil Rights Data Collection) is a biennial (every two years) survey administered by the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR). It captures information on student enrollment, course access, school climate, and discipline; data is disaggregated by student demographics (i.e. race/ethnicity, sex, disability, EL status, etc.). This dataset is important because it shows who has access to rigorous coursework and resources, and where disparities in discipline, school climate, or opportunity exist, so that school districts can take strategic action to mitigate inequities.

  • Explore Federal K-12 Datasets

Federal education data are collected across various agencies and programs, making it difficult to see how the pieces fit together. The Data Atlas brings these collections into a unified guide, detailing each dataset’s purpose, connections, and relevance to K–12 policy.

  • Find Datasets by the Questions They Answer

We built the Data Atlas by starting with the questions that matter. Select a question to discover what each federal dataset can tell you and how it connects to real-world policy issues.

  • Trace the Data Driving Federal Formula Grants

Federal education grants depend on an underlying framework of demographic, geographic, and economic statistics to distribute funding to states. This interactive pathway reveals those connections, showing how administrative data flow into federal funding formulas and highlighting the real-world significance of these collections.
